Have you checked out our "Ponies of the Past" column at the bottom of the homepage? Updated monthly!

RE-LAUNCHED WEBSITE Miranda Bowen has re-launched her animal portrait website which is worth checking out in case you are thinking about capturing your favourite "friend" in watercolours. Her work already hangs in studs around the world including Nattai, Judaroo, Eckbaken and Ysselvliedts so next time their is an occasion to be remembered - think of Miranda Bowen Animal Portrait artist. |
FACEBOOK We have endeavoured to bring you old photos over the last twelve months that bear relevance to our ponies here at Heniarth in the "Ponies of the Past" section that appears on the homepage. However, that is nothing to the 1500 + images that have appeared on the "Old Welsh Ponies" page on Facebook, thanks to the idea of Tasmanian pony breeder Dean Quinliven. Pictures have been posted from around the world, some that have been seen before in old journals but many that are new to us. So, whilst Facebook can sometimes be tiresome, this is one thing it certainly has succeeded in. It's certainly made the winter a lot more interesting! |

JOHN MILLIGAN 1925 - 1987 As January drew to a close we were saddened to hear of the passing of John Milligan of the Roseisle Stud. John, together with wife Lindsay showed remarkable faith in us when we introduced ourselves to them back in 1995 to ask if we might lease their prize stallion Roseisle Pandy Tudyr and take him from his native Scotland to stand in Wales. This move proved to be the making of our fledgling stud and the start of a great friendship. John's tales and memories served as great encouragement to us as well as amusement and we endeavoured to keep him up to date with news from the shows when he was unable to attend. One highlight was to travel to the Scottish Horse Show of which John was the then Chairman where he saw his namesake Heniarth Mr.Milligan take the in-hand championship and then the Pandy Tudyr daughter Heniarth Yippee-aye-Yeah take the Horse of the Year ridden qualifier. He was always so very proud of "Andy's" achievements. We shall certainly miss his anecdotes from a life spent with ponies - it was indeed an honour to have called him a friend. We extend our sympathy to his family at this sad time. |

NEW ARRIVALS With a noticeable lack of news to report for January we thought we'd introduce the two latest arrivals - a pair of Gold Dutch Bantams ( Hollandse Kriel ) - a further trio are set to arrive in February and we look forward to hatching a few eggs later in the season. The last group we had a few years ago were by all accounts not exactly "true to type" so hopefully this time we have started of on the right lines. - Watch this space! OUT AND ABOUT Kizzie Lucas and Heniarth Yeeha Sheila had a successful first season lead rein outing locally, though showing in a snow storm in January cant have been much fun! Four year old Cwm-Meudwy Adnod by Heniarth Quip has qualified with wins and Championships for the British Show Pony Society winter championships at his first show for Anya Potter-Firth and we gather the ultimate Quip daughter, Heniarth Cupcake has been out winning working pony classes. Full marks for endurance! |

ANOTHER YEAR STARTS We make no apologies for presenting this lovely photo of Heniarth Yum-Yum taken by Maud Farghen from France this summer - if only to give ourselves encouragement to look forward to this summer! New Years day saw the first big bales of haylage being opened as the mares and youngsters came in out of the mud for the rest of the winter. Although far from being this clean they all look exceptionally "well" with Yum Yum being the first to foal in March. The show-ring seems a long way off just yet. We have added up that if all goes well there should be some fifteen ridden ponies bred at Heniarth out and about this summer so that gives huge satisfaction in knowing what we are breeding in our small way are obviously giving a lot of pleasure. Good luck to each, keep us posted with their activities and most of all enjoy! |

very much a "work in progress" but good viewing
nevertheless! |

NEW YEAR
PERFORMANCES Firstly it was great to receive the photo left of Heniarth Mr.Milligan and his rider Wilma obviously enjoying his jumping back at the Ekbacken Stud in Sweden - showing excellent form, style and enjoyment and surprisingly not seeming to miss those fat old lazy days of being an in-hand stallion in the UK during 2011! Then on New Years eve we were thrilled to see his son, Heniarth Yeats similarly enjoying his newly found ridden talents with Eleri Marshalsay (above). Looks like it could be an entertaining new season for both of them? |

FROZEN WELSH PONY FOAL IN THE AUSTRALIAN
SUMMER Here is the long awaited
photo from the Tooravale Stud of Wendy Trimble
and Shane Bysouth near Melbourne, Australia
who are thrilled with the arrival of the first
foal via imported frozen semen from
Heniarth Wood-Wind.
Tooravale Wind Chime as she
has been named is out of Weston Park Magnolia
who is by Weston Olympian that was imported into
Australia with twenty-two other Welsh ponies
when the late Jack Edwards and his family
emigrated in 1979. She stems from a direct dam
line of Weston Mary Ann, unbeaten in the UK
show-rings, including the 1975 Royal Welsh
Championship. Wood-Winds sire, Lemonshill Top
Note and dam Eyarth Windflower have between
themselves collected four Royal Welsh
Championships and three Horse of the Year Show
“Cuddy” tickets in recent years. Wood-Wind
himself was the Cheshire County Reserve Cuddy
qualifier at his last show-ring appearance in
2010 as a three year old.
Wendy Trimble says, “The
filly is a good mover with a great front and she
carries herself so well even at 2 days old and
she was nearly three weeks early!” Born
chestnut, she’s already turning grey.
